For 15 years, Basil Bangs has been creating a fabulous array of outdoor furniture, shade options and homewares that are durable, versatile and light-hearted – qualities that have seen the company attract a dedicated following both locally and globally.

With its unparalleled range of umbrellas for the beach, home and commercial applications, Basil Bangs is the country’s pre-eminent design-led shade brand. The company’s product roll call extends well beyond umbrellas and includes classic timber deckchairs, a rattan-backed lounger, cushions and bean bags for indoors and out, towels, bags, totes, tablecloths and picnic rugs.

The Italian collection has been designed in-house and is made in Italy for Basil Bangs by a mill with an 80-year-plus heritage in fabric manufacturing.

Basil Bangs has worked with Australian designers and architects to provide bespoke shade solutions for a range of design-focused commercial projects. These include Gibney restaurant by Rezen Studio on Cottesloe Beach, Perth, the Dion Hall-designed Johnny’s Green Room on the rooftop of the iconic King and Godfree building in Carlton, Melbourne, and, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the Harbord Hotel by Alexander &CO.

Now the brand is launching its first outdoor fabric range. Inspired by the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago north of Sicily and the birthplace of co-founder Mike Durante’s maternal family, the Italian collection has been designed in-house and is made in Italy for Basil Bangs by a mill with an 80-year-plus heritage in fabric manufacturing.

“European heart meets Australian soul for a collection that is both beautiful and high-performance.”

“The collection encompasses four singular fabric ranges that encapsulate the personality, colours and terrain of Sicily,” says Durante. “Rich volcanic soil and lava mingle with deep azure water and bright sapphire skies to inspire texture and tone, while washed-out pastel houses, sparkling white pumice and iridescent sunsets inform both the palette and patterns. European heart meets Australian soul for a collection that is both beautiful and high-performance.”

For upholstery needs, the fabrics can be ordered as yardage but can also be customised for a variety of applications. “We can work with designers to customise the fabric further to suit their needs,” says Durante. “The expanded offering will also provide a broad range of customisable umbrellas suited to both residential and hospitality spaces.” The Italian collection will be introduced to a selection of Basil Bangs products – both existing and new – to perfectly coincide with the Australian summer.
