Residential Oasis – J.T.M Residence by EB Interiors
From a simple one-room project emerges J.T.M. Residence, a completely renovated home that provides a serene backdrop for family life. Crafted by EB Interiors, the remodelled residence improves upon the home’s light, flow and function.
Situated in Burraneer, the bayside suburb of southern Sydney, J.T.M. Residence overlooks the gently shifting water of the bay. In stark contrast to the dark and inefficient spaces of the pre-existing home, the design brief requested a relaxing environment imbued with light and practicality. Home to a family of eight, EB Interiors takes a restrained approach, focusing on establishing spatial flow and a sense of understated luxury to maximise the beneficial impact of the renovation.
Reconfiguring the inside of the home, EB Interiors creates a series of spaces better suited to the clients’ lifestyle. The new floor plan sees the stairs moved from behind the kitchen to the centre of the house, enabling extra bedrooms and bathrooms to occupy the first floor. Extending the kitchen into the area vacated by the original stairs, EB Interiors balances the narrow nature of the space with the addition of two walk in-pantries. A wide island bench – purposefully sized to accommodate the entire family – grounds the space in much-needed functionality. The footprint of the house is maximised with the area under the relocated stairs designated as a study nook and, closed off from this, a bar.
Throughout the home, a light, neutral colour palette is evocative of a traditional spa aesthetic, acknowledging the clients’ request for a calming residence. Soft furnishings, lightly coloured paint and large windows create the sense of an airy interior, measured against warm timber accents that endow the space with natural tactility. The materiality of the home expresses an affinity with family life without compromising on style, with durable fabric furnishings, wipeable wood and tiles maintaining an inviting appearance through time and repeated use.

The main bathroom presents as a particular design triumph. Positioning a dual vanity to the centre of the back wall, accompanied by two identical mirrors, EB Interiors establishes a soothingly symmetrical focal point. Whilst the mirrors bounce natural light further into the room, they also reflect surrounding features of the space, reinforcing the colour palette and decorative language. In the shower area, thin sheets of glazing are used to subtly enclose the space while patterned tiles wrap the corner of the room. The remaining bathroom walls are covered by warm-toned beige tiles that transition onto the floor, joining the shower area to the rest of the bathroom in a moment of visual cohesion. A round, free-standing bathtub complements the lavish space.
J.T.M. Residence is a domestic sanctuary, allowing for moments of togetherness and privacy within the tranquil interior scheme. By reimagining the internal architecture of the home and applying a muted colour palette, EB Interiors is able to articulate a sense of open space, creating a charming residential oasis.
