Representing a landmark moment in Australian design and manufacturing, Jardan’s Scoresby headquarters is destined to transform the essence of how we create, specify and purchase furniture and homewares.

The nature of the Australian furniture industry was irreversibly changed the moment the world ground to a halt in early 2020. With lead times expanding, work restrictions tightening and consumer confidence dwindling, as a society we looked inwards for solutions. From this shift there arose an opportunity, an opportunity upon which Australian furniture and homewares brand Jardan decided to act. “The point of being an Australian manufacturer is that you can be flexible, fast and nimble,” says Nick Garnham, co-owner of Jardan. “Over the past 25 years, we have observed many shifts in the industry, but our commitment to quality local manufacturing has remained resolute.”

“The idea of having a business that is going to be a positive influence in the world is more important to me than just trying to churn out stuff for the bottom line.”

That steadfast commitment takes physical form within the walls of Jardan’s state-of-the-art design and manufacturing headquarters, located in the Melbourne suburb of Scoresby. This visionary venture brings together an in-house design, R&D and complete manufacturing team, all working collaboratively under one roof. The 16,000-square-metre Scoresby facility houses an extensive range of machinery – including the highly sophisticated 13-axis CNC machine and RF press, innovative investments that allow Jardan to maintain increased control over design and efficiency.

A true testament to sustainable design practices, the measures Jardan has taken to make a positive impact on the environment are considered and plentiful. “Becoming carbon neutral was something I wanted to do from a personal standpoint,” says Nick. “I’ve always been a passionate surfer and I love the natural environment, so the idea of having a business that is going to be a positive influence in the world is more important to me than just trying to churn out stuff for the bottom line.”

The opening of this expansive facility has led to a significant increase in Jardan’s workforce, providing employment opportunities to a growing number of talented individuals.

Jardan also takes its social responsibility seriously. Scoresby has become an engine for local job creation, and a guardian of the furniture trade as a profession. The opening of this expansive facility has led to a significant increase in Jardan’s workforce, providing employment opportunities to a growing number of talented individuals. “Once you lose an industry like the car industry, it’s gone forever,” says Nick. “You lose the skills and the network and the whole industry kind of crumbles.” By investing in its community, Jardan contributes to the local economy while nurturing a skilled workforce that shares the brand’s passion for craftsmanship and design excellence.

Extending beyond the realm of bricks and mortar – and encompassing a deeper meaning than the design pieces it creates – the true beauty of Jardan’s Scoresby headquarters inherently lies in the people who work within its walls. Offering an inspiring platform to express creativity, Scoresby represents a giant leap forward for the Australian furniture industry.

More than a physical testament to its success, Jardan’s new facility is also a testament to its unwavering dedication to craftsmanship, innovation and a brighter future for Australian design and manufacturing.
