McGrath Head Office by The Unlisted Collective
The transformation of McGrath Head Office in Pyrmont marks a significant achievement for The Unlisted Collective. Two existing offices have been seamlessly merged into a modern yet timeless headquarters for the real-estate agency.
Characterised by elegant walnut panelling, deep tones and terrazzo flooring, the mid-century modern fit-out also features finishes that complement the building’s striking facade, including terracotta-coloured window frames. The Unlisted Collective focused on creating an inviting and functional environment that reflects McGrath’s brand and ethos as an industry leader. The office layout has been designed with user experience in mind, with the reconfiguration of services ensuring a harmonious balance between aesthetics, functionality and sustainability.
Meeting rooms are cocooning and intimate, decked out in rich colours, lush textures and custom-built credenzas that marry functionality with elegance.
Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by a reception area illuminated by the Taccia lamp by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Euroluce and other bespoke fixtures to set the tone for a comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere. The adjacent waiting area is tranquil and warm, adorned with walnut timber panelling, creamy terrazzo flooring, antique rugs, leather sofas, travertine coffee tables from Trit House and another iconic Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni light, the Flos Toio floor lamp.
Past this initial open area, a dedicated study features an ethanol fireplace, providing a cosy breakout space for staff or private meetings. Meeting rooms are cocooning and intimate, decked out in rich colours, lush textures and custom-built credenzas with recesses for stationery and glassware that marry functionality with elegance. Glass walls veiled by sheer curtains separate these rooms from the main space.
The layout was meticulously optimised to accommodate the McGrath team, ensuring that both private offices and collaborative meeting spaces foster a comfortable working environment.
The mid-century modern aesthetic was a key requirement of the client, who envisioned a workspace that blends contemporary design with classic elements. This ideation was supported by walls awash in Dulux Blue Shell and Tarzan Green, which pop when met with filtered natural light from the abundance of windows. The layout was meticulously optimised to accommodate the McGrath team, ensuring that both private offices and collaborative meeting spaces foster an efficient and comfortable working environment.
Notable in the newly reconstructed workspace is the inclusion of high-end kitchen facilities. The dual-kitchen setup caters to client meetings and events while also providing a space for staff use. Incorporating Laminex’s natural finishes in Kalamata and Otway, the eye-catching cooking zone promotes a sense of community through natural mingling among co-workers throughout the day.
Working to budget and sustainability constraints was also a crucial aspect of the whole design process. By reusing existing materials and carefully selecting finishes that enhance the overall aesthetic, neither quality nor style was sacrificed, and the office not only meets practical needs but also reflects the company’s strong commitment to environmental initiatives.
McGrath Head Office presents a warm and welcoming atmosphere that perfectly resonates with the company’s identity. The thoughtfully designed space ensures comfort and inspiration for both employees and clients and exemplifies the successful balance of functionality and aesthetics to create a vibrant workplace culture that supports the dynamic nature of the McGrath business.
