Infused with a sense of both the timeless and the playful, Coco Flip’s Sequence Collection embodies the power of simple yet impactful design and local manufacturing. The recent addition of two new dining tables further expands the versatility of the range.

Coco Flip, founded in 2010 by Kate Stokes and Haslett Grounds, showcases design that pursues considered material, character and production. Each product is produced in Melbourne, highlighting a purposeful craftsmanship that is thoughtfully instilled into each final piece. “Design for us is about storytelling and combining playful forms with practical solutions,” says Kate. “We believe that objects should be imbued with meaning and that they are more likely to be cared for and treasured over time when people understand the stories behind them.” Sustainability is at the forefront of every aspect of the manufacturing process, as the brand continues to passionately advocate for local production. Coco Flip pieces are designed one at a time and produced in limited numbers, ensuring a high level of quality and craft.

Named after the boardgame ‘Sequence’, which evokes the image of family and friends gathered around a central table, the Sequence Collection is an extension of the principles nurtured by the Coco Flip brand. More specifically, the design plays upon the mathematical notion of a sequence – an enumerated collection of numbers or objects, where repetitions are allowed. “Sequence was first launched in 2019 and has fast become our most popular collection,” Kate says. “I think people have really responded to the playful yet refined forms and the collection’s adaptability.” Its distinctive design adds a pop of personality to interiors, with its gentle curves and the smooth yet defined materiality of steel. “Each Sequence piece is made to order with extreme care and precision. In keeping with our brand ethos, the Sequence collection is playful and full of personality, without being overbearing.”

The collection comprises of coffee tables and bench seats, with Sequence Dining being the latest addition to the range. After months of deliberating, designing and prototyping, Coco Flip has launched the Sequence Round and Sequence Oval. The tables’ versatile nature allows each piece to suit residential dining or office suites. “Adding dining tables to the Sequence Collection was a direct response to the constant requests we received for them,” Kate says. “We developed a new larger base, which is made differently to the coffee tables, and designed a system so that the legs and tops can be transported separately and easily assembled.”

Made from mild steel, the design is based around one or multiple thick cylindrical legs that seamlessly join to a thin table top. Manufacturing combines several detailed processes when producing the range, from rolling and spinning steel drums to laser cutting and welding. The collection’s customisable outlook allows each piece to suit a range of contemporary needs, be that interior or even exterior. “The various table sizes, heights and colour options allow for a fair amount of flexibility and customisation, meaning people can really make them fit their own specific needs. They also offer a wonderful opportunity to add colour to both indoor and outdoor spaces,” Kate explains. The collection – manufactured in Lilydale Melbourne’s east – is offered in a selection of colours in a durable and textured powder-coat finish, executed locally in Preston, near the Coco Flip studio.
