A Sense of Connection — Nodi Rugs
Transcending mere ornamentation, Nodi rugs lay the parameters for community, inviting people to come to come together in a multitude of environments. Whether it be in the home or the office, a custom-made piece or one from the Nodi collection, the natural fibre rugs weave the links between people, the external landscape and the planet at large to create the ultimate sense of connection.
Founded by Olivia Moon, Nodi supplies rugs that are thoughtfully designed labours of love. Available in Australia through District, which has showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, the rugs originate as a simple knot comprised of natural fibres. From here, the creation has evolved into an elegant range of hand-spun pieces made from New Zealand and Himalayan wool, as well as jute sustainably sourced from West Bengal. Every handcrafted rug reflects the global influences Olivia encountered on her travels abroad, including those from her six-month trip to India, during which she learnt the skill of rug-making from talented local artisans. In its entirety, the Nodi range celebrates the natural through a timeless and considered lens, pointing towards the long-standing appeal of imperfect beauty.

Underpinning Nodi is the idea of creating a healthy space, a far-reaching concept that intimately joins aesthetic experience to the social, ethical and environmental footprint of a product. As a result of its natural materiality, the rug collection combines a pleasant tactility with significant engagement with nature, evoking a sense of contentment, creating a welcoming environment in which to connect to others and speaking to the ideal of feeling good. The sustainable material character of the range also eases the conscience of the customer by representing a meaningful investment into the future of the home, as well as a refreshing aversion to plastic in a field dominated by polyester.
Featured in many high-end residential and commercial projects globally, Nodi products can be used to effortlessly establish a sense of place. Both the existing collections and custom rug design and manufacturing services ensure that Nodi is compellingly responsive to any design brief. In Harbour House by Sophie Burke Design, Nodi’s Braided Jute rug anchors the living room with a sense of approachability and sets the casual tone of the space, with its colour complementing the hemlock cladding of the interior scheme. At the Britomart Hotel in Auckland, Nodi worked closely with the team at Cheshire Architects on the design of several custom-made rugs. The resulting bespoke rugs are woven from hand-spun wool and jute, complementing and elevating the hotel’s material palette. Nodi also worked with the designers of Dropbox HQ in San Francisco to create a bespoke rug using the popular braided jute texture. The unique scalloped-shape rugs run the length of the entire space, subtly defining areas of connection.

At the scale of a private home on the one hand or the office of a global multi-national company on the other, bringing people together in healthy spaces remains at the core of everything that Nodi does. This, combined with the company’s commitment to natural materials, wellbeing, quality handcrafting, considered design and ethical practices, has laid a strong foundation for work with many leading architects and designers such as Tom Mark Henry, Fearon Hay, Baldwin & Bagnall and Knight Associates, among others. With a collaborative and generous spirit, Nodi Rugs crafts connection, one rug at a time.
