From May 15 – 24, NOMI brought together members of Melbourne’s design community to celebrate Blend Volume II – the launch of the latest additions to the Blend Collection, including the company’s first bed, as well as a dining table, coffee table, side table and cafe table.

Held at @14, an elegant exhibition space in Collingwood, Blend Volume II was curated by Tom Mark Henry director Jade Nottage and senior creative manager Tristan Qasabian. The chic and minimalist installation saw the new pieces situated among stainless-steel room dividers with mesh screens, luxurious burgundy wool rugs by Bremworth and elegant portable lighting by Neoz, echoing NOMI’s detailed approach to craftsmanship and materiality.

Blend Volume II was imagined as a natural extension of the original series, which included storage units for both residential and commercial settings that combined curved edges, clean lines and a restrained palette of luxurious marble and timber veneer alongside more industrial stainless-steel legs. “The idea of material blending was the inspiration for the Blend name,” Nottage explains. “We used metal, stone and timber to create a unique combination of materials, detailed in a clean, minimalist way to ensure the pieces never feel fussy.”

Blend Volume II speaks to the restraint and material clarity that defines the company’s broader values and aesthetic.

Blend Volume II expands the collection to new applications while introducing softer elements through upholstery and innovative material pairings. Richly veined marble runs across dining, coffee and side tables, dark timber brings elegance and warmth, while the signature metal legs add an edgy feel. “We have really loved exploring the evolution of the original Blend collection,” Qasabian says. “We have stayed very true to the existing language but explored how the metal leg could be iterated into these varying pieces and still hold as much gravity as their original application.”

For over 10 years, NOMI has built a reputation for marrying traditional craftsmanship with original design and innovation to create high-quality, customisable furniture – and these pieces are no exception. Blend Volume II speaks to the restraint and material clarity that defines the company’s broader values and aesthetic. “In the original design process, we stayed true to the NOMI clean, linear language, but, of course, tried to push the envelope through our own lens,” Nottage explains. “Keeping the forms mostly rectangular, with small insertions of curves where we felt softening was appropriate, was key to this.”

Reflecting on the collaboration, Qasabian describes the process as one built on openness and respect. “Our relationship with NOMI has always been one of trust and fun collaboration. NOMI has the ability to see so many ideas realised, so everything was on the table for discussion.” With Blend Volume II, they continue to grow and develop this fruitful creative partnership even further.
