An Elegant Dialogue – Officina Dining Collection by Magis
The Officina Dining Collection by Magis is a refined conversation, pushing design boundaries to create pieces that are both functional and unexpected. The range, available through dedece, surpasses traditional furniture conceptions by challenging limitations and finding innovative solutions through materiality and sustainability.
Founded 1976 in Italy, Magis champions poignant craftsmanship and ergonomic aesthetic. The Latin-derived ‘magis’ is defined as ‘more than’, embodying the furniture brand’s desire to create high-quality and surprising design, pioneering in areas of innovation and technology. The Officina Dining Collection is an extension of these values – utilising bold yet understated features to create products that will last.
Director of dedece John Engelen describes the Officina Dining Collection as “the perfect marriage of contemporary styling and traditional manufacturing.” With pieces designed by brother design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the collection is a stylistic and powerful dialogue of sleek and efficient proposition. “Always with their finger on the pulse, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s creative direction has given way to a collection that is a testament to modern design,” muses John. “Combined with Magis’ inimitable style and penchant for the unexpected, this collection goes far beyond your typical dining suite.”
The Officina Dining Collection is made up of a series of pieces that include chairs, stools, armchairs, sofas and accessories. First launched in 2015, the introduction of dining elements contributes to the collection’s interior takeover. Pieces, such as the Officina Chair or Bench, assert a balance between delicacy and strength. Implementing an ancient processing method that shapes the metal core and forges the wrought iron framework, the minimalist interpretation merges comfort and style. The legs appear to drape over the base of the chair in a single form, with options for the final result to be either galvanised or painted. The natural curve of the seat – made using plywood, fabric, leather or polypropylene – can be crafted to suit either indoor or outdoor use.
The authentic craftsmanship is further accentuated by the Officina Dining Table. Bespoke options are available, with the table offered in an array of heights and tabletops in various sizes, shapes and materials. The materials include smoked glass, painted steel, American walnut or Carrara marble. Slight imperfections are what makes each piece one of a kind, accentuating the raw qualities of the materials.
The elegant expression of each piece is engineered using the highest calibre of craftsmanship. “Strong yet refined, the Officina Dining range embodies the perfect combination of aesthetic value and comfort,” says John. The distinct design suits a range of interiors, with the classic wrought iron feature being given a fresh and contemporary interpretation. Infused with a timelessness – combined with industrial and hand-made qualities – each piece embodies a sculptural undertaking to last generations.
