Paddington House II by Porebski Architects
With a finely tuned approach to reimagining a generously scaled terrace house, Porebski Architects expertly balances heritage charm with contemporary refinement, creating a warm, family-oriented home that feels timelessly elegant.
Nestled in a tranquil cul-de-sac, Paddington House II is a testament to thoughtful renovation, seamlessly blending the character of a traditional terrace with the practicalities of modern family life. This north-facing gem, with its leafy outlook and generous proportions, marks a sophisticated evolution of its already expansive predecessor.
While the classic facade offers a respectful nod to the home’s heritage, stepping inside reveals a meticulously crafted interior. The space opens with a striking sense of volume, where sculptural elements underscore a bespoke approach and careful attention to detail. In the living space, custom joinery and a well-positioned fireplace create warmth and comfort.
This space flows effortlessly into a dramatic, wide staircase – a clever architectural statement that feels refreshingly modern, adding depth. Going down in an amphitheatre-like descent, it draws the eye toward the double-height kitchen and dining area. Here, the new Tama Blue marble island takes centrestage – a stunning focal point that introduces a luxurious texture and richness to an otherwise clean, minimal palette. Timber flooring and aged brass fixtures along the stair provide warmth and sculptural intrigue, grounding the space with material depth and detail.
The resulting sense of connection – to both light and verdant greenery – carries through every level of the home.
The kitchen and dining areas are bathed in natural light, enhanced by soaring, timber-lined coffered ceilings and strategically placed windows that also promote natural ventilation. This expansive zone opens to the outdoor living spaces, well and truly blurring the line between inside and out. The resulting sense of connection – to both light and verdant greenery – carries through every level of the home. The upper terrace serves as an ideal alfresco dining spot, while the lower terrace, complete with a fire pit and lush landscaping, offers a more relaxed space for entertaining.
Upstairs, the transformation continues with the main bedroom expanded westward. New bi-fold doors open onto a balcony, connecting the space to the outdoors. The ensuite has been reconfigured for improved functionality and is now awash with natural light from an existing skylight. Updates to the additional bedrooms, attic and basement rumpus room – along with a refreshed laundry – ensure every corner of the house meets contemporary expectations for comfort and convenience, all without compromising on elegance or charm.
Paddington House II is more than a renovation – it’s a harmonious blend of heritage and innovation. Porebski Architects, alongside the broader project team, have delivered a home that feels timeless in its appeal and perfectly attuned to the dynamic needs of family life, creating a truly exceptional living experience.
