As a contemporary interpretation of the sensibilities of early 20th-century dressing-rooms and parlours, the Perri Cutten Mosman is an ode to old-time elegance and modern-day class. Interior design studio Brahman Perera has created a cohesive dialogue between the Sydney locale and the Australian fashion house through cultivated materiality, earthy tones, textural finishes and evocative furnishings.

The luxurious designer clothing label is known for fostering Australian design talent throughout its many stores, and the Mosman store is no different. Set among the fashionable streets of Sydney’s Lower North Shore, Brahman Perera’s highly personal approach aligns beautifully with the ambitions of the new space.

A unique and evocative palette immediately engages visitors upon entry, signalling a distinct separation between the busyness of Military Road and the relaxing atmosphere of the store. Visitors are greeted by a powdery blue porcelain tile and rammed-earth plinths and urns, imbued with distinct coastal connotations. Further inside, a soft, cut-pile wool carpet in the same blue shade lines the walls, adding tactility and depth while enveloping visitors in a way that feels warm and inviting.

An earthy materiality beautifully complements the cosmopolitan feel of the space. Custom rammed-earth tables by Bieëmele in a sandstone shade offer a subtle nod to Sydney’s historical architecture, while travertine with a striated vein pattern is featured on the main counter – juxtaposing the refined and robust.

Furnishings continue this contrast while elevating the bespoke sensibility of the store. Armchairs from grazia&co embody an early 20th-century luxe aesthetic with pinched upholstery and gold castors, while a vintage 1930s lobed dish pendant adds a soft focal point against the contemporary language of chrome and mirror details.

Raw detailing combines with soft textures and low lighting to create a moody, romantic feel reminiscent of Parisian ateliers and sewing rooms. Crushed silk in a white hue and rumpled texture is used for dressing-room curtains, with each room dimly lit by a delicate rice-paper wall lamp featuring beading from local artist Lana Launay.

Influenced by the location’s urban fabric as well as its natural coastal context, Perri Cutten Mosman is a rich, nuanced and sacred space that beautifully resonates with the beloved Australian label.
