Petersham Project
Sydney-based TASS unites architecture and construction under one roof, delivering seamless, collaborative homes that are Thoughtfully designed, expertly built and deeply attuned to modern living.
Approaching residential design with a quiet confidence shaped by clarity, craft, cohesion and customer focus, Sydney architecture and building company TASS offers a singular and considered pathway from concept to completion. By dissolving the traditional divide between architecture and construction, the studio offers a holistic approach: designers who build and builders who design. The result is not simply efficiency, but a more human experience of creating a home, one that feels intuitive, collaborative and deeply personal.
Under one roof, TASS brings together architects, interior designers, builders, estimators and site managers in a shared environment where ideas are exchanged freely and refined collectively. As one of just a few New South Wales practices with both registered architects and licensed builders, its integrated model allows each discipline to inform the other in real time, fostering a process that is as seamless as it is rigorous and transparent. By redefining the building and design process, TASS delivers homes as thoughtfully imagined as they are meticulously realised.
A core ethos is that homes are meant to be lived in, not simply admired. Each project carries an understanding of the people it is for – their rhythms, values and aspirations – producing a curated spatial narrative reflecting those nuances. TASS designs are not imposed. They are shaped, layer by layer, through dialogue and intention. Materials, light, proportion and flow are considered as part of a cohesive whole supporting daily life while elevating it.
This philosophy finds expression in a recent project in Petersham, a careful reimagining of a heritage home into a contemporary family residence. Set along a quiet Inner West street, the house balances the enduring charm of its original architecture with the fluidity and ease of modern living. Rather than contrast old and new, the design draws them together. Character is preserved alongside a refined material palette and calm continuity.
Soft curves emerge in archways, door openings and a sculptural kitchen island, gently echoing the rhythm of the original pressed ceilings. Light flows in softly, with considered fixtures enhancing rather than dominating, allowing texture and form to take precedence.
Stone by esteemed supplier Franchi Umberto Marmi anchors the impressive kitchen island, central to the expansive living hub which is framed by views of established foliage and a serene backyard pool. Tapware by Yabby introduces a subtle precision to kitchens and bathrooms, and feature tiling from Di Lorenzo Tiles adds tactility and detail. Both are complemented by interior and exterior flooring by Eco Outdoor which blurs the threshold between inside and out.
The residence is defined by its quiet confidence: every element feels resolved yet never overstated. Spaces unfold with a sense of ease, fostering connection, comfort and the evolving needs of family life. This is a home respecting its past while firmly oriented toward the present.
Conceived and delivered entirely by the in-house team, Petersham Project exemplifies the strength of TASS’s integrated approach. From the first sketch to the final handover, the process allows an original vision to blossom with precision and care. A singular, thoughtful practice centred on creating homes that endure, TASS redefines what it means to design and build.
