A space of local artistry, Piccolina greets each guest with an element of surprise and wonder – in the same way a child looks at the selection of gelato on offer in a store. Hecker Guthrie departs from previous iterations of Piccolina while still keeping the same raw exposed building shell as a signature.

There’s a sense of ceremony in the visiting of a gelateria and the scooping of each flavour as you ponder across a glass counter. This nostalgia continues in the recent expansion of Piccolina to Swan Street in Richmond, where the core of what the brand is formed upon has been given permission to take full flight. This seed of romance – and the closing out of a meal with something sweet – evolves into a grown-up version of its previous self, where a darker palette coupled with more brooding materials fill the space.

The space brings old craft into the present, allowing artists, sculptors and furniture makers to do what they do best – imagine and create.

The same joy of making and creation is shared across the open counter and kitchen, with unique furniture, lighting and displays donning the surfaces in their own curious ways.
