A Unique Retreat – Point Piper Villa by Archer Design
Point Piper Villa comes together as a dramatic and bold home that emphasises a connection to the outdoors, instilling an atmosphere of retreat. Archer Design focuses on creating an elevated lived experience with modern and custom additions to reflect the occupants’ personalities and lifestyles.
Across its multiple levels, Point Piper Villa aims to bring opulence and elevated luxury to the core elements that define life in Sydney. With access to abounding landscapes and natural beauty, the home also captures its closeness to the iconic Sydney Harbour. Like many Sydneysiders, the owners wanted to ensure the generous volumes of their home could open to the surrounding landscape, allowing a freedom of movement across thresholds. Key to this interconnection is the close collaboration between Archer Design and Wyer & Co. Ensuring a cohesive approach was carried throughout, the outdoor spaces became key destinations of their own.
In the home’s renovation, the exterior heritage features remain, whilst the interior spaces were rebuilt to create the ideal modern sanctuary. Wanting to create a relaxed and removed setting, the multiple levels open generously to the outdoors, where the landscape draws interest and activity. Ensuring every inch of the site is utilised, an ease of flow between inside and out was key to the home’s design and the residence is oriented to maximise views out toward Sydney Harbour. Reflecting the contemporary experience of the home, lighting design and artwork placement align to funnel sightlines outward, ensuring the view remains the focus.
The home is founded on openness and a celebration of the fundamental elements of Sydney life. With the surrounding environment in mind, natural ventilation and solar gains are key functions in how the home performs. The residence is a balance between inside and out, modernity and history and formal and personal touches – creating a versatile series of spaces that instil inspiration and curiosity.
