The partnership between Polestar and Candela merges two Swedish powerhouses, setting a new benchmark for luxury electric mobility on land and sea.

Renowned for their commitment to innovation, sustainability and design excellence, the partnership between Swedish brands Polestar and Candela is reshaping the luxury electric transport landscape. By combining cutting-edge performance with purpose-driven design, the car maker and boat maker challenge traditional notions of transport, setting a new benchmark in both the automotive and marine industries. The first product of this partnership, the Candela C-8 – which was recently demonstrated at the Sydney Harbour Concours D’Elegance event – is the perfect complement to the Australian lifestyle, extending Polestar’s mission to explore sustainable mobility beyond electric cars.

The Polestar 3 luxury SUV and Polestar 4 SUV Coupé embody avant-garde Swedish thinking, where high-tech minimalism meets design perfection.

The original Candela C-8 marked a significant milestone. Following an agreement in August 2022 for Polestar to supply batteries and technology, the C-8 merged Polestar’s electric vehicle expertise with Candela’s hydrofoil technology. The Candela C-8 Polestar Edition, now available for pre-order in Australia, takes this collaboration a step further, incorporating bespoke design cues such as a new sleek grey exterior and custom upholstery. With a 69kWh battery and charging technology shared with the Polestar 2, the boat achieves an impressive range of up to 57 nautical miles on a single charge at a cruising speed of 22 knots. Its 75kW electric motor, paired with hydrofoils that lift the hull above the water, reduces energy consumption by up to 80 per cent while providing a smooth, silent ride.

The Concours D’Elegance was also an opportunity to explore Polestar’s latest vehicle offerings – the Polestar 3 luxury SUV and Polestar 4 SUV Coupé. Both embody avant-garde Swedish thinking, where high-tech minimalism meets design perfection, layered with global-leading sustainability considerations, including the use of circular and low-carbon materials. Visitors were able to experience the ultimate in luxury electric motoring, where elevated aesthetics, superb detailing, intuitive technology and generous proportions meet to create a ride like no other.

A stellar presence at the event was Sydney-based industrial designer David Caon, a key Australian partner in the Polestar-Candela collaboration. Known for his work on Qantas’s Dreamliner cabins and luxury interiors across various sectors, Caon brings a deep understanding of Australian design sensibilities to the Candela C-8. His philosophy prioritises simplicity, performance and user comfort, all of which are reflected in the boat’s refined aesthetic and functionality. Caon’s expertise ensures that the Candela C-8 is not only an innovative feat of engineering but also a luxury product that aligns perfectly with the Australian lifestyle.

These include the CAKE Makka Polestar Edition electric moped, the high-end Allebike Elize Polestar Engineered mountain bike and Re:Move, a multi-functional electric transporter which aims to ‘maximise societal impact and minimise environmental impact.’

As luxury electric mobility evolves, Polestar and Candela continue to lead the way, proving that sustainability doesn’t have to compromise performance or design. Both brands use circular materials and innovative production methods to redefine the concept of luxury.
