An Exploration of Art and Nature – Red Hill by RMS Traders and Gillie and Marc
Stone expert RMS Traders has collaborated with prolific global artists Gillie and Marc on a project on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Since 1984, RMS Traders has been providing innovative and high-end stone solutions to the Australian market. So, when it came to a project in Red Hill on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the company embraced an equally innovative approach by collaborating with artists Gillie and Marc, renowned globally for their public artworks which often blur the line between reality and imagination. Featuring grey-toned Premium Bluestone pavers alongside a selection of Gillie and Marc’s bespoke sculptures, Red Hill emerges as a fascinating exploration of art and nature.
“From the majestic veins of marble to the earthy warmth of granite, natural stone possesses a timeless allure that has captivated civilisations for millennia,” says Shaun Palkhiwala, RMS Traders’ director. “Its enduring beauty and unique characteristics make it an ideal canvas for artistic exploration.”
The exterior of Red Hill features a selection of sculptures by Gillie and Marc, offset by RMS Traders’ robust stone pavers. The sculptures – located both by the pool and on a hill overlooking the property – are similar in style to the British-American sculptors’ most famous characters, Rabbitwoman and Dogman.
RMS Traders’ Premium Bluestone provides the foundation for the sculptures, with the artists drawing inspiration from the raw textures and rich colours found in the stone. An appreciation of simple beauty is embodied in the sculptural works, which also vividly capture the stone’s veins – celebrating its natural beauty and creating a harmonious dialogue between raw materials and artistic vision.
The unexpected introduction of the sculptures to the landscape provides moments of intrigue and surprise. The combination of natural stone and striking works of art both elevates and enlivens the spaces. At Red Hill, there is a seamless interaction between the two, seeing each element contribute to the overall aesthetic with ease.

From a sculptural work elevating an outdoor space to a marble accent adding a swath of opulence to an interior, the combination of natural stone and artistry makes for environments that exude both sophistication and creativity. At Red Hill, the interplay between the intrinsic beauty of stone and the striking nature of sculpture sets a new precedent for pushing the boundaries of design.
