A Holistic Approach – Relinque Urban Retreat by Studio Tate

Offering an experimental take on the traditional wellness centre, Relinque Urban Retreat combines a day spa, spinal clinic, Pilates and yoga studios into one cohesive space founded on the principles of holistic wellness. Balancing layered materials, intelligent interior design and a functional floor plan, Studio Tate has created an immersive space that enables a seamless client experience that captures Relinque’s approach to wellness.

Studio Tate became absorbed in Relinque’s ethos of the importance of function in crafting an immersive client journey and creating a warm, authentic space. To this end, function is at the heart of the design approach. Focus was placed on creating an accessible and intuitive floor plan, underpinned by a circular configuration. This encourages an organic experience of the venue and a natural sense of progression. To nurture a sense of intimacy within the expansive space, tailored sightlines are used to give visitors the autonomy to navigate the venue.

An intimate, soothing oasis emerges through selective interior design choices. Using raw and tactile materials – inspired by the surrounding parklands and waterway – creates a textural earthiness, which is balanced with luxurious, refined accents to create a sense of sophistication. An interplay between shadow and light is seen in almost every space, encouraged by the curved corridors and polished plaster finishes. This creates a calming effect, which is enhanced by the inclusion of a backlit ceiling creating a halo of gently diffused light.

The individually contained treatment rooms are warmly layered with granite, timber and glazed tiles in shades of muted green. The reception layers green marble, honed granite, hand-glazed Japanese tiles, leather seating and emerald green joinery, which is complemented by a concrete aggregate floor. In the yoga and meditation room, a timber floor and ceiling are used to evoke a cocoon-like interior that encourages relaxation and introspection.
