Openly Anchored – Noosa Residence by Tim Ditchfield Architects
Optimising the site and its proximity to the water, Noosa Residence is given a streamlined and linear modernist approach. Tim Ditchfield Architects utilises a balance of open and closed elements to ensure a lasting resolve and appropriate response to the surrounding sub-tropical climate.
Conceived as a secondary home for its owners, the concept of an elevated and openly engaged residence was integral to the brief. In aligning with the climate of Noosa, the form is designed to open and close as needed to allow for a free flow of ventilation. Offering a place of retreat and recharge, the restraint Tim Ditchfield Architects uses throughout creates a calming sense of composure from the initial entry and through each of the internal spaces.
A focus on horizontality influences a midcentury modernist style whilst also emphasising long vistas and sightlines. Inspired by a style of architecture that introduced long spans and experimented with increased openings, the approach is also underpinned by a desired timelessness. Creating an open home that felt lofted and light-filled yet protected from the elements was integral to all design decisions.
Located in Riverstone, Noosa Residence was built with a philosophy of robustness. In reaction to the climate, and to ensure a lowered level of maintenance is required, concrete forms the structural base of the home and encases the exterior. Internally, a more textured approach is inspired by the previous home that sat on the site and a sees more typically coastal selection of finishes. Adopting a contemporary palette, the finishes reflect an evolution from the previous home. Immersed within a formally curated landscape by Conlon Group, outdoor rooms act as a welcomed extension of the home.

Muted and nature-inspired, Noosa Residence combines refinement with openness to produce an alignment with the context and climate. Through a honed attention to detail, Tim Ditchfield Architects has created a modern and luxurious home built to last.
