Contrasted Harmony – Rose Bay Duet by Stafford Architecture and Blue Label Design
Rose Bay Duet sees the harmonious occupation of two residences on the one site. Stafford Architecture and Blue Label Design propose the respectfully contrasting and definitive forms of the contemporary residences.
Nestled into the same-named area, the adjacent houses are conceived from a similar sensibility of scale, proportion and volume whilst being expressed as geometrically differing homes. The project, designed for close family to reside, allows for connections through materiality and individualising points of difference. With architecture by Stafford Architecture and interior design by Blue Label Design, the homes follow the same narrative whilst echoing the lifestyle of their inhabitants.
Rose Bay Duet navigates its sloping site among a curated and considered setting. Integral to the story of the home are separate points of engagement with the streetscape as the main entries, marking the two home’s different identities. Both, however, align and open to the front to capture uninterrupted vistas of the nearby harbour and are parallel in the way they transition from a more formal approach in the front of the home to more informal at the rear.
Replacing the existing home built in the 1980s, the two residences reference the past terrace form. In the project’s contemporary design, concrete forms the framework for the two homes; one features a fluted and ribbed design whilst the other is less ornate, with clean lines and bare expanses. A similar materiality coolness is carried to the internal palette, where light colours and tones are used throughout, emphasising a sense of scale and directing views out over the harbour.
