Rosebery Engine Yards by Goodman
Located in the vibrant heart of Sydney’s Inner South, the newly revamped Rosebery Engine Yards is poised to become a bustling hub.
This stunning mixed-use project, which has been conceptualised and is managed by Goodman – a specialist developer of industrial property – promises an unforgettable experience for both residents and visitors, blending high-end venues for shopping, dining and community engagement within a beautifully restored heritage site.
The Rosebery Engine Yards boasts a storied past, originally serving as the Westinghouse factory in the 1920s. Fast forward to 2024, and this iconic location has unveiled its second life as a centre for premium retailers and exclusive brands. The redevelopment has been carefully designed to maintain the site’s industrial character while integrating modern aesthetics and sustainable features. Renowned fashion and accessory labels like Rebecca Vallance, Oroton, July, Aje and Zimmermann join beloved food purveyors such as Gelato Messina, Lune Croissanterie and others, creating a vibrant tapestry of both local and international brands.
Spread across 1.9 hectares, one of the largest heritage brownfield developments in the area, Rosebery Engine Yards is more than just a retail precinct; it’s an elevated lifestyle destination. With high-end finishes, lush gardens, natural light and inviting floral areas, Rosebery Engine Yards is designed for socialising, shopping and relaxation. A range of food and beverage options ensures that visitors can refuel while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. As they stroll through the building, guests can indulge in artisanal gelato or savour a flaky croissant, all while surrounded by the inspiring blend of history and contemporary design.
Rosebery Engine Yards embodies a vision that goes beyond retail, too; it showcases a deep commitment to the local community and sustainability. The architecturally striking and refurbished block maintains its raw character while being thoughtfully improved upon, creating a unique heritage backdrop. By revitalising an old industrial space, it promotes circularity through the reduction, recycling and reuse of existing resources. “Rosebery Engine Yards is a great example of the benefits of adaptive reuse and the value repurposed buildings play in the sustainable development of Australian communities,” says Kori Todd, head of design for Goodman.
The project has made impressive strides in reducing its environmental impact, achieving more than a 30 per cent decrease in embodied carbon by reusing original building materials. It features energy and water monitoring systems, as well as rainwater collection for landscape irrigation. Rooftop solar panels and daylight harvesting enhance energy efficiency, and using 100 per cent renewable electricity shows a strong commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the development includes LED lighting, landscaped seating areas, secure undercover parking, electric vehicle stations and plenty of bike storage – all contributing to its eco-friendly design.
Rosebery Engine Yards breathes new life into the area, further adding to its commercial and cultural hub status.
