A pioneering range of furniture and accessories for both outdoors and indoors, the Fritz Hansen Skagerak Collection is now available in Australia and New Zealand exclusively at Cult. Established in 1976, the Skagerak brand has been seamlessly absorbed into the Fritz Hansen family, bringing together two companies with a distinctly Danish disposition to connect nature and design.

The marriage of Danish furniture design companies Skagerak and Fritz Hansen in 2022 united both brand’s passion for quality, craftsmanship and sustainability, expanding the best of Scandinavian design to a broader audience. CULT Founder and CEO Richard Munao says he’s delighted to welcome the Fritz Hansen Skagerak Collection to Australia and New Zealand this spring. “Australians and New Zealanders spend a lot of time in their outdoor spaces and I’m really pleased to offer more choice when it comes to high-quality and sustainable outdoor furniture,” Richard says. “The indoor pieces are equally strong, particularly the Cutter, Hven and Georg ranges.”

The Skagerak range of outdoor furniture draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the Danish landmark it is named after.

Skagerak draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the Danish landmark it is named after (the Skagerrak is a strait running between Denmark, Norway and Sweden). Crafted primarily from FSC-certified teak and oak, the range embodies durability, environmental consciousness and aesthetics in equal measure, and epitomises the understated elegance of Danish design. The natural quality of the teak (the primary material in the outdoor range) means it will patina beautifully over time and age gracefully.

Like all great outdoor furniture, Skagerak blurs the line between the indoors and outdoors. The Skagen Bench, for instance, is both robust and graceful, designed to withstand the elements but featuring a delicate cross-back pattern. Similarly, the classic sling design of the Pelagus Lounge Chair would look equally at home on a pool deck or for drinks on the terrace.

The pieces in the collection are complemented by a range of accessories that embody the best of contemporary Danish craftsmanship.

The Skagerak collection also includes a beautiful range of indoor furniture including the slatted Cutter Bench, whose design was inspired by the Bauhaus movement, and the Fiona Stool, a Nordic reinterpretation of the classic X-chair, in teak or oak. The minimalist, untreated oak Hven Bench is characterised by round edges while the Georg Stool combines Nordic simplicity with Japanese minimalism, its slender legs topped with a woollen or linen cushion held in place with a leather strap – a divine interconnection of textile and timber.

The pieces are complemented by a range of accessories that embody the best of contemporary Danish craftsmanship. It includes vases, pots, rugs, candleholders, cushions, mirrors and kitchen accessories. The Fritz Hansen Skagerak collection is exclusively available in Australia and New Zealand at Cult.
