Reimagined Melbourne Showroom
Studio Tali Roth transforms Zenn Design’s Melbourne showroom with a layered interior where bespoke craftsmanship, tactile materials and sculptural forms express the furniture brand’s philosophy.
At its best, a showroom expresses the values behind a brand, revealing how material, craftsmanship and spatial experience come together to shape the way people inhabit a place. For Melbourne furniture maker Zenn Design, the transformation of its flagship showroom by Studio Tali Roth reflects that ambition, creating an interior that feels layered, tactile and deeply connected to the company’s evolving design language.
“It’s not about creating an entirely new space that departs from the old but breathing new life into it in a way that reflects how the brand has naturally evolved.”
Rather than reimagining the showroom from the ground up, Studio Tali Roth worked with the qualities already embedded within the space, enriching them through material contrast, sculptural form and a calibrated palette. The resulting interior balances restraint with moments of unexpected expression, most notably through a chartreuse lacquered ceiling feature that emerged during the studio’s exploration of textiles, finishes and colour.
“Our philosophy when working on retail or commercial spaces is to lean heavily on the existing brand identity,” says Tali Roth, founder and creative director of Studio Tali Roth. “It’s not about creating an entirely new space that departs from the old but breathing new life into it in a way that reflects how the brand has naturally evolved.”
Recurring details guide visitors through the space, connecting display settings and meeting spaces with a consistent architectural language.
The tone is established upon entering the showroom. A custom walnut hexagonal table sits beside a mohair banquette, creating a generous setting for conversations traversing materials, finishes and bespoke possibilities. From there, recurring details guide visitors through the space, connecting display settings and meeting areas with a consistent architectural language that centres on texture, proportion and craftsmanship. Adding further richness is a curated selection of ceramics, hardware and decorative objects by Australian designers and makers, acknowledging the community of local craftspeople whose work complements Zenn’s design ethos.
Throughout, custom upholstered seating, tailored window furnishings and sculptural bed designs demonstrate the breadth of personalisation available across Zenn’s collection. The redesign also turns a spotlight on Drop 001, Studio Tali Roth’s first ready-made furniture collection for Zenn. Integrated alongside the brand’s bespoke pieces, the collection signals an expanded offering, grounded in the studio’s emphasis on material integrity and enduring craftsmanship.
Studio Tali Roth has also designed two bespoke pieces exclusively for the showroom. The solid walnut Hex table introduces a geometric presence that anchors the front of the space, while the Pill table pairs a softened double-bullnose edge with a brushed stainless-steel base, offering a study in material balance and proportion.
For Zenn founder Hannah Goldberg, the collaboration reflects a natural progression for the business. “Working with Studio Tali Roth has allowed us to reimagine the showroom in a way that feels deeply aligned with the direction we are naturally evolving towards,” she says. “This collaboration celebrates craftsmanship, classic forms and the importance of creating spaces that feel personal, considered and enduring.”
