With a nod to the traditional executed through a contemporary lens, Sydney Residence comes together as a playful expression of its young family, with aspects directed towards Sydney Harbour. Cameron Kimber Design and Daniel Boddam Studio combine to replace an existing home with an expanded footprint that aligns with outdoor living.

With the ideal location of the existing home, the owners of Sydney Residence elected to replace the house in its entirety to cater for their needs and style. Honouring the original home, traditional detailing was featured throughout with a contemporary twist. Imagined to be the foundation for the unfolding years of family life, a generous home of humble proportions and robustness was proposed. Ensuring a connection to place and the optimisation of the Sydney Harbour location, the interior opens to framed views out, with various outdoor terrace and garden spaces encouraging indoor-outdoor movement.

In collaboration with Daniel Boddam Studio’s architectural design, the interior is designed by Cameron Kimber Design and brings a signature sense of vitality to the more classically referenced home. The use of layered colours, patterns and textures ensures a depth is created throughout, reinforcing a sense of luxury and heightened everyday living. Comfort and endurability underpin the insertions within, with integrated joinery and permanent elements as statements of legacy. Through combining a contemporary and classic approach, an inimitable style emerges.

Allowing access across thresholds was key to binding the landscape with the home’s built elements. Being able to spill out beyond the building edge was integral to how the owners wanted to engage with the residence and also optimised views out over the famed harbour. Mixing both vibrant elements with more muted bases, the home is a journey of discovery, with different rooms and approaches aligning with select functionality throughout. Florals and references to the surrounding landscape also play a core inspiring role, creating new and strengthened connections whilst also adding a sense of drama and the unexpected.
