Reflecting the history and tradition embodied in the cigar smoking ritual, The Index is a space that captures a likeable old-world charm. Studio LMD worked closely with the brand to craft a space that is both warm and inviting, while also being a deep dive into creating balance and contrast.

As the city around it readies for a new chapter, with architectural additions elevating the built world of Brisbane, The Index is a suitable addition in that process of enlivening. Mixing a heavy timber expression with lighter elements, the space becomes a contemporary and refreshing take on the traditional practice of cigar smoking. Aimed at appealing broadly, the space is neither feminine nor masculine and instead aspires to teeter between the two.

Like the layering of tobacco leaves, and a certain patience required in the production of cigars themselves, there is a quietness and contemplativeness that emerges from the space as a result. As a homage to tradition, artisans and makers have been collected by Studio LMD to craft the immersive space, overlaying a modern touch through a refreshing restraint.
