The Cove Corsica Apartments by OGE Group Architects
In Pelican Waters on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, The Cove Corsica Apartments deliver a resort-style living experience that integrates private and communal spaces, fostering a strong sense of community.
Drawing inspiration from the enduring charm of traditional Queenslander architecture, the design of The Cove Corsica Apartments features expansive decks and verandahs that create generous outdoor areas, protecting residents from the elements while inviting in natural light, refreshing breezes and scenic views. A stand-out element of this project is the application of KLAY brick slips for the outdoor areas, a choice that beautifully aligns with both the architectural vision and the practical demands of coastal living.
Initially, OGE Group Architects envisioned a full brick facade; however, the search for a lightweight alternative led to the selection of KLAY’s Prachstein series in Ivory Mist. Often referred to as thin bricks, KLAY brick slips are crafted from the same raw materials as traditional bricks and are kiln-fired at comparable temperatures, ensuring that they maintain the aesthetic appeal and durability expected of classic brickwork. Made in Germany by a 130-year-old manufacturer, this high-quality material provides a contemporary facade that harmonises with the overall design while offering superior resistance to the elements.
Choosing KLAY brick slips allowed the Sunshine Coast-based architect to achieve the timeless look of brick without the associated weight and costs. This choice is particularly relevant in multi-residential designs, where load-bearing elements typically rely on steel or concrete. Unlike traditional brick faces, which incur additional costs from cutting full bricks, KLAY brick slips are extruded to ideal thicknesses between 10 and 14 millimetres, resulting in minimal waste and cost-effective installation.
Beyond their visual appeal, KLAY brick slips also provide significant advantages in terms of upkeep, which is an essential consideration in multi-residential developments such as The Cove Corsica Apartments, where high-maintenance facades can lead to inflated body corporate fees.
Selected for their exceptional performance against the rigours of weather and time, these brick slips resist harsh conditions while requiring minimal maintenance. Their enduring design, coupled with both durability and UV resistance, positions them as a practical choice that enhances both the beauty and longevity of the apartments.
With a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality, The Cove Corsica Apartments stand as a testament to modern design principles. Residents can enjoy a beautifully crafted home that not only meets their needs today but also ensures lasting value for the future.
