The Dawn Collection by Brillo
Dawn, the debut collection from boutique Australian furniture brand Brillo, is marked by simple lines, rich textures, beautiful finishes – and a dollop of vibrancy.
For the past 15 years, Vittoria Chiarilli has worked as an interior designer, passionate about creating inspiring spaces for both residential and commercial clients. “l’ve really come to appreciate the impact my work can have on others. It’s a transformative process,” she says. It was a natural next step for Vittoria to design furniture that would be equally transformative. “The interior design process inspired me to try my hand at designing a small, curated range that represented my style and which l could offer not only to my clients but to a broader market.” And so, in 2023, Brillo was born.
Vittoria’s intention with Brillo was straightforward: to create easy, elegant modern pieces in natural materials that represented the best of contemporary Australian style. That design ethos comes together beautifully in Brillo’s first curated range, the Dawn Collection. Minimalist and pared-back, the collection includes six core designs, available in multiple materials and hues. While the palette is primarily natural – in oak and black oak – there are pops of colour, too, including a soft pink and rich forest green for the Felix side tables. “The range is playful but unapologetically true to its modern Australian design roots of simplicity, functionality and craftsmanship,” Vittoria says.
Dawn is made primarily from solid oak sourced from America, and crafted and hand-finished in Indonesia by a team of artisans, led by a talented furniture maker whom Vittoria and her husband met on a 2022 trip to the city of Semarang in the Central Java Province after being introduced by a colleague in Australia. “He’s a very dynamic character who is passionate about furniture and the craft of furniture making, having built an established manufacturing business he has managed for the past 30 years,” Vittoria says.
The range features stools, chairs, benches, coffee tables and mirrors. Highlights include the Miss Loretta sideboard, a curvaceous, four-door piece in solid oak with dark brass handles and distinctive curved legs, and the low-slung Totti coffee table, a robust form with a solid ball ‘leg’, available in oak or oak with black accents. The Frankie bench seat and Little Bobbi seat/foot stool are variations on a theme: both with rounded tops in a natural weave fabric and whimsical chunky legs, in either natural oak or black oak. The Miss Lotti mirrors are a vibrant, kaleidoscopic addendum to the furniture range.
“The Dawn Collection features considered, simple core pieces that can be introduced into any space, from bedrooms and bathrooms to lounge rooms,” Vittoria says. “The range embodies the use of natural materials which are beautifully crafted to form classic design shapes.”
Brillo was named for the Italian word for ‘brilliant’, not only a nod to Vittoria’s heritage but encapsulating her approach to furniture design. “I like to think of Brillo as a playful Australian interpretation of its namesake: understated and elegant but fresh and playful. It’s about key considered pieces that tell a story – one that’s fun and a little unexpected.”
Created with architects, interior designers and stylists in mind, the Dawn Collection is only sold through design professionals and selected stockists, and is available in both trade and stockist pricing categories. Enquiries to info@brillolife.com.au.
