The Other Art Fair Returns for 2024
A bold and innovative approach atypical to traditional art events, The Other Art Fair is returning to Sydney this October and Melbourne in 2025 for its 100th iteration.
Celebrating its centennial edition, the boundary-pushing fair presented by Saatchi Art has taken centrestage in some of the world’s biggest cities, with each fair featuring unforgettable immersive installations and performances. This year’s fair is no different, showcasing hundreds of emerging and independent artists and connecting them with the public and art buyers alike. However, unlike many other events in the art world, The Other Art Fair provides a democratic, accessible platform for buyers and acts as an achievable launch pad for artists.

Since its inception in 2011, The Other Art Fair has only continued to make a positive impact. Founder Ryan Stainer comments: “It’s incredible to see how a small art event in London has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. Australia has been absolutely pivotal in that journey, with Sydney being the first market outside of the United Kingdom. Together, Sydney and Melbourne have embraced The Other Art Fair with an energy and creativity that’s unmatched, helping to shape it into the global movement it is today. With 18 editions down under and counting, the Australian market has truly been the beating heart of our success. We’re celebrating the Aussie spirit that’s made The Other Art Fair the ultimate anti-fair.”
Led by fair director Luke Potkin, the event will feature over 100 artists, each exploring different themes, styles and mediums. Illustrator and cartoonist John Paine will create an interactive mural that visitors can help colour in, while digital artist Michael Wallner explores the beauty of our cities through shapes, outlines and colours. Similarly, Sydney-based multimedia artist George Hall’s paintings and prints will be on show, celebrating queerness through colour and reflections on his own journey. Self-taught artist and naturalist Havilah Albrego’s acrylic on canvas depicts the ocean and marine life and Chilean-Australian interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator Miriam Cabello’s mixed media artwork will highlight modern-day heroes.

Hundreds of other creatives will take part in the event. In this sense, The Other Art Fair offers a unique platform for emerging artists to showcase their work. For example, exhibiting artist Dilara Niriella comments: “My first show was at The Other Art Fair Sydney back in December 2021 and it changed everything. Now I’ve been lucky enough to show my work in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, meeting artists from all over the world who are just as wild and passionate as I am. If you’re an artist ready to shake things up, this is where you start.” First-time exhibitor at the upcoming Sydney edition of The Other Art Fair, Kyly Boldy Clarke adds: “The Other Art Fair has played a pivotal role in enlivening and electrifying Sydney’s art market since it first arrived in Australia.”
The fair offers an inspiring, inclusive and immersive experience for artists and art lovers alike. The Sydney edition of The Other Art Fair will take place October 3 – 6 at White Bay Cruise Terminal in Rozelle and the Melbourne edition will take place January 30 – February 2 at The Timber Yard.
