Continuing the heritage of the building, The Penthouse receives a timeless approach of traditional and crafted elements within an interior that stretches over multiple levels. Simone Haag curates the most recent iteration by layering rich textures and forms and combining sourced vintage pieces with a contemporary foundation.

Originally built in the 1920s, the building The Penthouse sits within retains detailing from a period steeped in experimentation – retaining this spirit formed the basis of the brief. As the generously scaled home spans three levels, the approach is one that combines traditional elements with an atmosphere of curiosity. Warm and rich saturated tones are layered throughout, animated by a wealth of natural light. Simone Haag creates a narrative that connects the owner to their home through interior decoration and a curation of furniture, art and styling.

Behind the preserved heritage façade, the interplay with natural light is emphasised by the scale of the interior, ensuring each space feels restful and restorative. The integration of bold patterns within the textiles connects back to the origins of the building itself, where a distinctive playfulness resided. Reflective and transparent elements also emphasise the size of the interior.

Weaving the personalities of those living within the home into the decoration was also important and drove many of the design decisions. Expressive yet restrained, there is an order to the way the spaces come together, and it is in the combination of shapes and patterns that a more unexpected and unique approach comes together. Crisp white walls are the ideal backdrop for every sculpture, framed artwork or mirror, allowing each to be appreciated. With pieces brought in from both local and international sources, new and historical features are deliberately tied together to complete the story of the home.

Endowing a new chapter for many of the vintage pieces within The Penthouse, Simone Haag continues their legacy alongside that of the building itself. The careful and intentional approach creates a harmony between the owners and the home’s past.
