Total Fusion Platinum by ACME and Cavcorp
Over four levels, Total Fusion Platinum provides an elevated wellness experience by delivering world-class fitness, health and rejuvenation services. In Brisbane, Queensland, and part of Cavcorp’s multi-building development in Newstead’s Gasworks precinct, Total Fusion Platinum delivers a luxury experience within refined surrounds.
Total Fusion Platinum is Australia’s largest health club and fitness facility – covering 9,000 square metres – cleverly envisioned by ACME’s Caroline Choker and Vince Alafaci. ACME has embraced a seven-sense approach to architecture by considering work, life and play in relation to self-enhancement, wellbeing, health, community, environment and state-of-the-art design and technology. A lavish reception area and lobby lounge features a magnificent five-storey ‘tree of life’, surrounded by an atrium made of lime plaster and metal. This light-well effect reflects the mirror-faced oculus skylight and is further magnified by tiered botanical LED light beams.
Located on the opposite side of the lobby are the day spa treatment rooms. Options include a NASA-approved red light therapy bed, seven medical therapy rooms for laser, PRP and micro-needling treatments and another seven spa rooms for massages and facials. Additionally, there is a couple’s therapy room with an Ayurveda bed and copper bath. The ground-level treatment rooms are also complemented by a therapeutic Kneipp reflexology stone path, sunken lounge, and cryotherapy, ozone and magnetic therapy spaces. By working together, ACME and Damien Cavallucci, CEO of Cavcorp, have created spaces where guests can synchronise the body and mind.
Within the training spaces, ACME has created several hubs for communal gathering and interaction between members and staff. The downstairs space, with a fishpond, offers co-working hubs and a podcast studio while a communal courtyard with tables and conversational lounges encourages clients to gather after a workout.
The tiered training levels feature an Elite Hypoxic altitude chamber, specialised gym80 training circuit, dedicated stretch circuit calisthenics arena and a Kilter inclined climbing wall.
ACME and Cavcorp enlisted the help of Total Fusion founder Leon McNiece to distinguish training spaces across the four levels. Two separate floors feature open-cell ceilings and curated floor finishes that cater to different workouts. Additionally, 133 pieces of Technogym equipment, as well as a 12-metre custom rig and sled track on each level, create the ultimate space for strength and cardiovascular workouts.
Embodying the essence of boutique gyms, the tiered training levels feature an Elite Hypoxic altitude chamber, a specialised gym80 training circuit, a dedicated stretch circuit calisthenics arena and a Kilter inclined climbing wall, which can be customised to the climber’s skill level.
The most considered design details of the training levels are the dynamic lighting schemes, an emotive Martin Audio surround-sound system and smoke-bronzed mirrors and limestone walls that lead to the bespoke bathrooms.
The rooftop level features a 25-metre Olympic short-course magnesium pool – which is also ultraviolet- and ozone-treated – a Snøhetta Snow Room, salt cave, two float tanks, seven infrared saunas, four hot magnesium spas and three cold magnesium plunge pools. Designed to be a post-workout zone, the space is complemented with a bar and cafe service, with farm-to-table-inspired cuisine.
More than just a gym or health centre, Total Fusion Platinum elevates how people see and experience wellness. “We believe Total Fusion Platinum is a unique and unparalleled health club and fitness facility not only in Australia but also internationally,” says ACME’s Caroline Choker. Catering to a wide range of fitness levels, training regimes and clientele, Leon McNeice and Damien Cavallucci, alongside ACME, have embraced the seven-sense architecture approach – addressing the five senses as well as movement and body awareness – offering members the ultimate space to improve their health.
