Intertwining a distinctive personal style with the rich history of a renowned New York City building, Corvino Design and Danielle Bernstein sees Tribeca Loft become a seamless blend of old and new.

Marisa Corvino, of Corvino Design, and Danielle Bernstein present a unique version of attainable luxury, employing texture to enhance the existing proportions of the home with a cosy and inviting ambiance. History guides the development of Tribeca Loft’s overall character. While preserving its historical features and detailing, new insertions were carefully chosen to harmonise with the building’s original era. Exposed cast iron columns and overhead wooden beams ground the revised space, hinting at the residence’s past. Through a close collaboration between client and designer, Marisa gained valuable insights into the client’s lifestyle and passions. “I would describe Danielle’s style as sophisticated, inspiring and influential,” says Marisa. “Her fashion aesthetic of curating vintage, ready-made and one-of-a-kind pieces is absolutely reflected in her home.”

The desire for a sanctuary, distinct from the bustling city below, was a key consideration in every decision and the overall design approach. Positioned within the character-rich setting of Tribeca – known for its historic architecture – retaining and celebrating a similar vibrancy and richness in the home was just as important. “Tribeca is the perfect balance of a calm city with just enough atmosphere,” says Marisa. “The goal was to create an airy and refreshed space with vintage anchors, with the focus being to select an assortment of natural fibres – such as sheer silks, linens and wool rugs – while also carefully blending more affordable and ready-made pieces with coveted vintage lighting, objects and custom furniture pieces.”

The integration of personality, stemming from both the pieces within the space and the owner, was key. A balance emerges from the juxtaposition of modern and vintage pieces, each contributing to the sense of warmth and sophistication felt throughout. A cohesive palette also serves as the cornerstone of all additions, bridging the gap between old and new. Subtle nuances in tone were crucial in enhancing the feeling of calm and composure. “I helped Danielle embrace hints of colour, such as green and tangerine,” says Marisa, “with a base palette of tans and browns that ground the spaces in a natural influence.”
