Great Dane Furniture invites Sydney and Melbourne to an evening with Japanese / Scandinavian inspired design studio Inoda+Sveje as they discuss the harmony and humanity behind the design of their iconic pieces.
Internationally acclaimed designers Kyoko Inoda and Nils Sveje effortlessly combine the timeless appeal of Scandinavian design with the innovative functionality of Japanese furniture through every piece their studio produces. Since founding their design practice in 2000 in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, before settling in Milan in 2003, the duo have gone on to design pieces that transcend the fields of furniture and product design to make their mark on audio and medical technology. The sheer credence of the studio’s reputation and impressive body of work makes Great Dane’s ‘Twenty Questions’ event an unmissable evening of inspiration.
Inoda+Sveje have generated international acclaim pertaining to their harmonious and sensitive design aesthetic, meaning that Great Dane Furniture is simply exhilarated to bring them both to Australian shores for the first time in their storied careers. Later this month they will be coming to Australia as guests of Great Dane Furniture, and will be speaking exclusively at two events. Interior designer and founder of Sisalla Interior Design Lauren Li will be hosting the first of these, at Great Dane Furniture’s Fitzroy showroom on the evening of July 23rd, whilst David Meagher, editor of Wish Magazine, will host guests at the Paddington showroom on the evening of July 25th.
Inoda+Sveje’s innovative approach and merging of two of the globe’s great design styles resulted the development of the much lauded DC09 dining chair, a crowning achievement in the careers of both designers and one of the central pieces the Great Dane dining collection. The chair, conceived in 2011 and manufactured by Miyazaki Chair Factory in Japan, was awarded GOLD at the IF Product Design Awards that same year. Today, Great Dane sells more of the DC09 chair than any other retailer in the world, highlighting the relevance of the DC09 to not only Great Dane Furniture, but Australian design enthusiasts in general.
In addition to the DC09 chair, Inoda+Sveje have consistently left their mark on the furniture design space, regularly collaborating with the finest manufacturers and architects around the world to achieve results that are aspirational and contemporary, whilst staying true to their aesthetic principles. Ever the innovators, Inoda+Sveje have also designed products as varied as Bluetooth speakers and medical research equipment.
Both evenings promise to provide guests with a comprehensive discussion between hosts and these two icons of design, delving into what inspires them, how they successfully merge Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, and what makes the DC09 such a special piece. In addition to the enlightening conversation, a Nordic inspired canapé and drinks list shall be on offer, with a competition giveaway for attendees to vie for on the night.
