Exterior Innovations – Twin Peaks by James Hardie
James Hardie offers new bold designs with the launch of Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding, delivering a contemporary aesthetic for the modern minimalist. Standing true to its roots to empower architects and homeowners alike, James Hardie – the world’s number one producer of high-quality fibre cement building solutions – has launched bespoke exterior cladding that exudes confidence.
Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding features thoughtfully crafted grooves with a design flexibility that welcomes unique aesthetics. The shiplap board cladding, made of premium fibre cement, has a thickness of 14 millimetres, enabling deep grooves with both square and angled edges – the first of its kind for the company’s exterior cladding. The effect is striking; spacing creates an interplay of highlights and shadows that change seamlessly throughout the day, establishing depth and intrigue across the building.
Design customisation is at the heart of Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding, with multiple lengths and widths opening up crafty construction possibilities. The 2,750-millimetre board length minimises waste for walls of a standard height, while the 4,200-millimetre size presents a sleek, seamless solution for tall walls. “We use Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding a lot of the time due to the board length,” says designer Nathan Punton of PXA Architects. “We don’t need to do a flashing joint – we can just use the full 4.2-metre piece for a full gable end and the 2.75-metre piece for the side elevations.”
James Hardie has taken versatility that extra bit further; with cladding widths available at 200 millimetres and 300 millimetres, installations can be as simple or custom as desired. The repetition of one width exemplifies simple sophistication and the alternating combination of two widths takes design to new heights by infusing character into a bold aesthetic. This artful arrangement is presented in the ‘Twin Peaks’ building project, where two Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding board widths have been painted in the Resene Element colour and paired with vintage bricks, forming an aesthetic that emanates the essence of modern minimalism.
In addition to its design flexibility, Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding is also practical and durable. Made with James Hardie’s premium fibre cement, the cladding has been engineered to withstand the harshest coastal environments, eliminating termites, rot and moisture damage. With safety in mind, the cladding has been deemed non-combustible and adheres to Bushfire Attack Level requirements. Combined with James Hardie’s Smart Fire & Acoustic Wall System, the cladding boasts a Fire Resistance Level of approximately 60 minutes. When installed, Hardie™ Oblique™ Cladding brings a fresh, personal touch – a chic pièce de résistance of a home’s exterior.
