Versatile Polished Plaster Finishes by Ambitec
Ambitec’s contemporary polished plasters offer seamless finishes across walls, ceilings, joinery and furniture for impactful design statements.
Since 1996, Ambitec has been an industry leader in polished plaster finishes. The versatility of the New Zealand company’s own product line, available in a spectrum of colours, textures and finishes, has cemented it as a go-to for architects, designers and the construction industry.
Ambitec’s end-to-end approach sees it handle everything from project conception to design, delivery and installation, ensuring expert advice every step of the way and tailored solutions for more distinctive needs. As is evident in Keshaw McArthur’s Valley House, numerous opportunities for customisation are available thanks to the range of colours, finishes and in-house capabilities, resulting in a versatile array of applications. Plaster can be applied to both cabinetry and walls for a seamless aesthetic and textural flow or used to stand out – think a bold textured ceiling and a contrasting wall or a piece of furniture rendered in an eye-catching hue.
Selecting from its premium Suave Polished Plaster range – available in SuaveStone, SuaveCrete and two-tone finishes – allows even greater latitude for commercial and residential projects. The finishes can coat any absorbent or prepared indoor surface, including plasterboard, MDF, brickwork and concrete, and lends tactility and an extraordinary depth of colour. Six different texture patterns, including pitted, stippled and embossed, further broaden versatility.
The beauty and adaptability of Ambitec’s Suave finishes in commercial settings take full flight in Fisher & Paykel’s dramatic Global Experience Centre in Auckland, created in partnership with Knight Associates. The space evokes the local landscape’s raw beauty through pieces made of organic materials such as a table sculpted from a 45,000-year-old kauri and a monolithic bowl carved from basalt. To complement this approach, Ambitec’s SuaveCrete in Beautiful Black was infused with black sand and applied to walls, ceilings and integrated appliances to offer texture and a sleek finish, exemplifying how the company’s tailored solutions can enhance a design-driven space.
For sleepwear brand Papinelle’s store in New Zealand, designer Wonder Group harnessed Ambitec’s finishes to achieve a striking result. This statement-making application sees the boutique’s curvy joinery and central counter finished with Ambitec Suave Two-tone Polished Plaster in Almond Petal Light and Almond Petal Dark, swathing the room in light pink tones to echo the elegant design of Papinelle’s products. A medium-grade polish with clear sealer is used to avoid fingerprints and to enhance durability.
Similarly, owner–architect Piers Kay used Ambitec finishes in Skelton Studio House, a mid-century home in Auckland, to gently integrate a contemporary liveability into a heritage space. Ambitec worked with Kay to retain a neutral, visually clean palette with its Suave Polished Plaster in Whitford White coating the walls and joinery, including kitchen cabinetry and bedroom cupboards. The effect is tranquil and seamless, leaning into the home’s stripped-back Japanese-inspired design principles.
Ambitec’s products are inherently multifunctional, opening the possibility of seamless application and offering endless adaptations to suit each unique project.
