Victorian House by Pasquale Cook
Victorian House emerges as a testament to delicate curation, with Pasquale Cook orchestrating a collection of pieces that pay homage to the home’s history while aligning with the preferences of its current occupants as they move through each room.
A Victorian terrace dating back to the 1890s, the residence undergoes a contemporary rejuvenation while the designer respects the original site constraints. Situated in Elsternwick amid a collection of period homes, it also adds to the neighbourhood’s rich heritage. Rather than modifying the architectural features, the redesign focuses on infusing the interior with the personality of its current inhabitants, integrating new elements while maintaining the residence’s historical charm.
Just as the home maintains its original detailing, craftsmanship is prominently woven in its design. A curated selection of furniture, art and decor elevates the primary living areas, reflecting a restrained yet deliberate approach. The process unfolded gradually, emphasising patience over haste. By emphasising existing details, the new additions introduce a contemporary freshness, fostering an open and visually cohesive atmosphere throughout the house.
The existing rooms, stemming from the original formal layout, not only delineate spaces but also serve as canvases to introduce functionality. Maintaining a timeless quality was also important, requiring furnishings to harmonise with the owners’ aesthetic while remaining faithful to the home’s heritage. Guided by their discerning eye as collectors, the owners’ existing pieces served as inspiration. As a result, each space assumes a distinct character; for instance, the office brings a utilitarian elegance, while the living areas emanate depth and texture.
In a collaborative effort with the owners, Pasquale Cook ensures Victorian House becomes a bespoke home. The designer respects the grandeur of the original dwelling while elevating its allure with a timeless touch.
