Driven by a desire for a slower pace of living and creating, Chloe Tozer, the founder and creative director of CLO Studios, and her partner Jack Clissold have lovingly restored Villa des Fleurs. Originally a 1970s dwelling, it now serves as both their personal residence and an extension of their studio.

Translating to ‘house of flowers’, Villa des Fleurs seamlessly blends a European aesthetic with the outdoor-centric lifestyle often associated with Australian coastal residences. “We were inspired by how the Europeans live,” says Chloe, “with modest spaces, lots of detail and surrounded by gardens.” Located in Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Chloe and Jack have imbued the home with their carefully curated and eclectic style. Recognising the potential within the existing structure and having the ability to shape the interior and gardens to their liking, the resulting abode is a unique reflection of their combined creative philosophy and approach.

The enduring quality typically associated with European aesthetics, along with the quality craftsmanship evident in every detail, contributes to the lasting appeal of this artisanal design. The owners infuse each space with the rustic charm of the French countryside and the timeless allure of Italian influences. Drawing from their respective backgrounds in design and construction, Chloe and Jack seek to strike a balance between whimsy and functionality throughout the home. Emphasising both interior and exterior areas, the landscape also serves as a collection of outdoor retreats, seamlessly blending with neighbouring properties.

Although many of the original features have been preserved, adjustments were made to the floor plan to enhance connectivity between the interior and exterior spaces. Situated along the coast, it was essential to capitalise on the landscape for enjoyment. “Villa des Fleurs is a creative haven for us,” says Chloe. “It is years of dreaming, planning and creating that have led us here.” The owners’ combined appreciation for how the natural, built and cultural elements can complement each other serves as their inspiration. “We are drawn to the old ways of creating,” she says, which is evident throughout the home.

Featuring a blend of collected treasures and newly acquired pieces, Villa des Fleurs mirrors the unique tastes and preferences of its owners. With complete creative freedom, the home embodies Chloe and Jack’s passions and lifestyle aspirations.
