Graceful curves, warm materiality and modern functionality characterise Woolooware Residence, a home that fuses classic and contemporary vernaculars and showcases Cosentino’s elegant and practical surfaces.

Over the past several years, the New Traditional vernacular has swept interior design, layering classic decor and materials with more contemporary elements such as clean lines, neutral tones and open-plan spaces. The style informs the refurbishment of Woolooware Residence in the south of Sydney, a project designed by Avenue Studios and overseen by Loretta Wilson of LOWI Interiors.

“Cosentino’s surfaces offer form and function by providing robust surfaces for everyday family life.”

LOWI’s transformation has its foundation in natural materials and an earthy palette. Warm timber blends with antique-style, mixed-metal hardware and elegant curves and arches that offset more modern angular lines. Beauty and practicality are key to the success of the interiors, qualities inherent in Cosentino’s Dekton and Sensa lines, which have been used extensively throughout. Both surfaces possess aesthetic appeal and durability in equal measure, and their versatility means they work in an almost endless variety of settings. “They offer form and function by providing robust surfaces for everyday family life,” says Wilson.

For this Sydney family, life centres around the open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, which opens to a chic alfresco area overlooking the pool. In the kitchen, Dekton Rem has been applied on the expansive island, a shelf and fronts, its white tone and brown-grey veining reflecting the space’s earthy persona. This ultra-compact porcelain surface is defined by its strength and performance, making it ideal for high-traffic spaces like kitchens.

In the adjoining living space, the elegant fireplace is clad in Sensa Taj Mahal, a beige-toned Brazilian quartzite that blends beauty with durability.

In the adjoining living space, the elegant fireplace is clad in Sensa Taj Mahal, a beige-toned Brazilian quartzite that blends beauty with durability, underpinned by stain-resistant protection. Its grey-gold veining provides a striking contrast with surrounding timber joinery. The versatility of Cosentino’s products is exemplified in the alfresco entertaining area, where the hard-wearing Dekton Liquid Shell was applied to the worktop and front of the outdoor kitchen, extending the New Traditional aesthetic outdoors.

Finally, the white-grey Dekton Helena – whose tones are inspired by onyx – is a striking feature of the spacious ensuite, creating a considered balance with the warm timber shelving and metal hardware and mirrors. Its non-porous surface is ideal for a space often exposed to water, while its stain resistance makes it the perfect low-maintenance choice for busy spaces.
