Zen Apartment takes shape through striking contrasts and bold gestures, reflecting the personality of the owner. Lawless & Meyerson employs a detailed and elevated approach to craft both strong and tranquil moments within.

With every detail considered, Zen Apartment transcends a mere sanctuary. Flanked by Japanese gardens, its interior is inspired by the serene elegance of these timeless outdoor spaces, where sculpted forms and intricate details embody an evolved aesthetic. Spanning the apartment’s length, a garden oasis with a central swimming pool beckons. Seamlessly integrated, each living space connects with the landscape, emphasising the bond between the natural and built elements. Lawless & Meyerson ensures the residence maintains its distinct character, affording vistas that extend to the garden – a space reminiscent of traditional Japanese dry gardens (karesansui) or Zen gardens – enhancing a meditative ambience and fostering a sense of calm through its natural connection.

The integration of indoor and outdoor spaces is a prominent theme throughout the home. A retreat from the bustling CBD, the apartment is equally suited for solitude or hosting guests on occasion. Furthermore, the combination of materials underscores how the dwelling harmonises various elements, accommodating different moods and aesthetics within. Located in Bellevue Hill, the design of the apartment is primarily made up of dark materials to enhance a sense of drama, balanced by moments of lightness throughout – a quality that extends gracefully into the garden.

Although the colour black dominates the material palette, it complements the lush, vibrant hues of the garden. This palette also mirrors the refinement and quality of the owner’s existing pieces, which have been collected and cherished over the years, offering insights into their identity. Creating a space to display these treasures inspired the chosen palette. The meticulous selection of materials, such as natural stone, textiles and metals, radiates luxury and elegance, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Zen Apartment invites occupants and guests alike to embrace stillness upon entering. Lawless & Meyerson’s design beautifully integrates various elements to enhance both aesthetics and functionality.
