Debuting its first physical presence in Western Australia, Melbourne-based studio Zenn Design introduces The Bedhead Bar, a new way of engaging with the bedroom. The space reimagines the showroom as an immersive experience, with visitors engaging firsthand with materials and design possibilities to envisage bespoke living spaces.

“Being able to come in, see, touch and feel the materials, from textures to fabrics and finishes, offers a far more considered and intuitive way to design your spaces.”

Miniature upholstered bedheads line the back wall, forming a textural backdrop that is both functional and expressive. Each piece can be handled and considered up close, encouraging a more intuitive approach to design. A custom-designed counter and glass display cabinet – its base framed by a classic ruched striped curtain – presents an array of fabric samples, trims and finishes, encouraging visitors to build combinations in real time.

As the process is less about selection and more about personal exploration, clients develop a deeper connection to the pieces they commission. “It completely redefines the retail experience,” explains Hannah Goldberg, Zenn Design’s founder and creative director. “Being able to come in, see, touch and feel the materials – from textures to fabrics and finishes – offers a far more considered and intuitive way to design your spaces.”

The bar layers Zenn Design’s refined sensibility within the warmth and nostalgia of Cleo Collects’ antique showroom.

The Bedhead Bar draws on the character of its host environment, layering Zenn Design’s refined sensibility within the warmth and nostalgia of Cleo Collects’ antique showroom in Highgate in inner-city Perth. The result is an interior that feels intimate and quietly luxurious, its rich earthy red and dark-wood-edged patina evoking an age-old traditional aesthetic. Tonal depth, softened light and richly textured materials create a setting that prioritises atmosphere as much as function.

The Bedhead Bar also reflects Zenn Design’s broader offering across bespoke furniture, upholstery and custom window furnishings.

“As we grow, we’re looking for more meaningful ways to connect with our clients.”

For Goldberg, the move into Perth signals a shift in how the brand relates to its audience. “As we grow, we’re looking for more meaningful ways to connect with our clients … creating experiences rather than just products,” she says. The Bedhead Bar, which also allows visitors to engage with design over a sparkling wine or water at the counter, embodies this evolution – a space defined by what is displayed and how it is experienced.
