Rewriting History – Dekton Pietra Kode by Cosentino and Daniel Germani

Cosentino Group has launched Dekton Pietra Kode, designed by architect Daniel Germani. Inspired by Italian architecture, the collection reimagines classic stones into high-performance, ultra-compact stones that offer a contemporary sensibility while remaining connected to the past.

Pietra Kode combines the Italian word for stone, ‘pietra’, with a contemporary nod to the technology it employs, ‘kode’, and is a reinterpretation of three classic Italian stones – Vicenza, Travertine and Ceppo di Gré. Each antique natural stone is decoded and then re-coded with a selection of shades and textures in Dekton, a combination of minerals made with Sinterized Particle Technology (TSP) and an ultra-compaction press process. The result demonstrates resistance to UV rays, scratches, stains and thermal shock, with very low water absorption, lending itself to a range of applications, both indoors and outdoors.

Pietra Kode is a reinterpretation of three classic Italian stones – Vicenza, Travertine and Ceppo di Gré.

The collection marks Cosentino’s third collaboration with Daniel Germani. Daniel lived and studied in Argentina before spending almost a decade in Europe working in various creative roles and became known for his innovative projects and collaborations. The collection reveals Daniel’s passion for Italian design and the influence of the rich cultural and historical heritage of Italy and the designs of Italian Renaissance architects. “For this collection, I spent a lot of time decoding each stoneʼs history in Italian architecture and reimagining them in a contemporary design with all of the benefits of Dekton,” he says.

The Vicenza Kode Series features four warm colours that offer a revision of Vicenza stone. Tones are neutral, dominated by greys, creamy whites and beige shades that are reminiscent of the earth. The textures, meanwhile, are natural, fine-grained and dotted with warm taupe hues, the warmth of the range complementing cream, wood and taupe palettes.

The collection reveals Daniel’s passion for Italian design and the influence of the rich cultural and historical heritage of Italy and the designs of Italian Renaissance architects.

Inspired by Renaissance architecture seen throughout Rome, the Travertine Kode Series features two designs reminiscent of classic styles. The TK05 Sabbia reinterprets Italian Travertine in an unorthodox and colourful way intended to complement a rustic context. Taking cues from Travertino Navona, the TK06 Marmorio’s porous striped structure provides an elegant, bright and lightweight look. The Ceppodi Gréstone was once used in architecture in Milan and has been reinterpreted in the Ceppo Kode Series. Designed to connect spaces with nature, the timeless design features a distinctive blue-grey colour and a pebbled pattern designed for both indoors and outdoors. Like Vicenza Kode, Ceppo Kode also features design along the edges to support revealing applications.
