About
Semi Permanent is exploring
– those moments of positive and negative friction that come before a breakthrough. When creative thinkers and doers stand on the brink of change and learn the things they need to learn, to step forward into the future and design that experience, solve that brief, arrive at that perfect layout or make that life-changing decision.
It’s hard to appreciate those last few steps whilst you’re in them, but as soon as they pass it’s an exciting ride and we sometimes wish we could have appreciated those prior moments a little more – because from continued success we don’t learn anything, but from challenge we discover who we really are and where we might want to evolve to.
Hosted by graphic designer Gemma O’Brien, there will be another round of Future State panels, focused this year on Sport, Music and Food.
With a lineup including Scott Dadich, former WIRED Editor-in-Chief and Executive Producer of Netfix series ‘Abstract: The Art of Design’, in conversation with Godfrey Dadich business partner Patrick Godfrey, former CEO of Godfrey Q the industry-leading B2B agency. Legendary Nike Air Jordan designer Tinker Hatfield will delineate a 36+ year career through his most celebrated shoe designs. Paula Scher, the iconic New York graphic designer and Principal at Pentagram, will cement her legacy as one of the most influential designers of the 21st century. Alex Schleifer, VP of Design at Airbnb, will discuss how design can accelerate a global sense of belonging. Ajaz Ahmed, Founder and CEO of innovation behemoth AKQA, will teach you the lessons he’s learned running a creative empire with over 2,000 staff. And NYC-based, Hong Kong-born, Australian motion designer Joyce N. Ho will take us behind ‘The Art of the Title’ and her collaboration with Dropbox.
We’re very proud to welcome back our key partners and collaborators; the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW who own, manage and produce Vivid Sydney, Western Sydney University, Facebook, Dropbox, Vice and The Old Clare Hotel. Stay tuned for more details on how these partners will be connecting with our audience in the lead-up to the event and on-ground at Carriageworks.
There are General and Premium 1, 2 and 3 days tickets available, with discounts for Student and Groups. Remember, last years event sold out, so grab your tickets while they are still around.
Enjoy those moments together, amongst friends and community at SP Sydney 2018.
