A Scandi Sanctuary in Tropical North Queensland
by Ethos Interiors
Turning a dark tired Queenslander into a scandi light-filled sanctuary was the goal that underpinned every element of this extensive renovation. Traditional Queenslander homes have a reputation for being dark, with awkward spaces so the first move was to raise the home, and create a large open plan living area on the lower floor. A pale Epoxy floor was used to create a cohesive backdrop for a layered style features unique textures, pale timber tones and layers of soft colour. The long galley kitchen features ply-look laminate in Polytec Natural Ply Woodmatt with the sink and appliances along the back wall, leaving the island as a striking centerpiece of the main floor. Porta Cirque timber cladding was used to add texture to the island, and was complemented by a mosaic-tiled bench seat in the dining nook. With a tight living space, a curved rendered bench seat was added to add hidden storage and extra seating, with the TV being hidden behind a sliding door cabinet. The entire area has a soft focus creating a sense of sanctuary as you enter from the north Queensland heat outside. Upstairs features a children’s play area, bedrooms and the bathroom and ensuite. Every room was given a unique perspective with elements of pale timber and colours keeping each space cohesive with the original design vision.
