Birkenstock Bondi Beach
by Tash Clark Architects
The Birkenstock Bondi Beach shop by Tash Clark Architects needed to respond to the beach it sits on, as well as representing the ethos of the Birkenstock product, within a tiny budget, a tiny space, and a tiny construction time frame.
The graded colours of ply, reflected in the mirror, are a nod to waves. They’re also an adept way of drawing customers into the narrow deep space! Tash Clark wanted to produce a shop with the lowest possible environmental impact. There was less than 2% waste from cutting the ply.
One of the biggest considerations in the design was how to turn the two massive columns on the left hand wall into an asset, not a disaster. The curved seating solution allowed customers to sit close to each other in a non confrontational manner.
