Daracombe Kew
by Paul Conrad Architects
From the Architect
Inspired by the local context of Kew, the natural environment and the movement of the sun throughout the day, Daracombe’s architecture exemplifies timeless quality. Positioned in one of Melbourne’s most architecturally historic pockets, it was essential for the building to be respectful of the heritage residences in the area. As such, the façade presents a refined expression of form, paired with an authentic and natural material palette that imbues the overall appearance with texture and warmth. At the centre of the building, a grandiose entryway ensures residents are met with luxury from the moment they arrive home, setting the tone for the interiors that lie within.
Fringed in verdant greenery, the penthouse pavilion is set above a solid brick podium, imparting dimension and a further layer of interest to Daracombe’s street presence. Moveable screens to the western penthouse terraces provide
protection from the warm, afternoon sun as well as views out the surrounding streetscape – just one of many considered features in Daracombe’s meticulously thought-out design by Paul Conrad Architects.
