Avenue on George

Avenue on George is a Sydney based café channelling the interior of a New York Loft style bistro.

Tucked within a Sydney Skyscraper on the ground floor, architects from Scott Carver were presented with an opportunity to design a contemporary café and restaurant for the Avenue Group. Complimenting the premium location, Avenue on George explores contemporary and professional settings, achieving a destination venue as one of Sydney’s hidden gems in the CBD.

For the design, architects were briefed on the idea, that the café needed to capture the essence of the quality ambitions set out by the building owners, Mirvac.

The space comes together with a series of custom design features which aim to celebrate the existing structures, including a timber acoustic ceiling, dimensional wall panelling and mirror features which promotes the connection between the various interactions within the space, and utilisation of the central column, which is a functional area for menu display.

Included into the design, is a custom bar counter which features premium marble stone, timber and hints of metal details; developing a relationship to the custom suspended display that elevates the experience of the open theatre kitchen for visitors to Avenue on George.

Upon entry, modern sophistication is continuously reinforced, evident in the main feature wall that utilizes matt and gloss white subway tiles that act in contrast to the warmer tones of timber veneer.

Mosaic Italian Carrara tiles wrap around the large central column, while the metallic in the suspended display; combined with timber and stone elements used on the bar counter add to the overall sense of timeless sophistication.
