Middle Park House
by Sisalla Interior Design
Middle Park House is a residential interior design project designed by Sisalla Interior Design and located in the Melbourne suburb of Middle Park.
This is a house to enjoy, delight, play and love. The brief was for the interiors to capture the spirit between Finland and Australia, the countries the clients are from.
The recent extension was completely transformed with a backdrop of soft pastels adding black accents for a more mature vibe. The finishes consist of natural materials such as soft leathers, linen, cork, plywood and handmade ceramic tiles which combines with carefully selected furniture and décor pieces for a lasting space the whole family can truly enjoy.
Head designer, Lauren Li’s favorite room is the Home Office due to it’s cool vibe and the blue/green colour of the walls that form the perfect backdrop for the watermelon table. There’s a desk area for working and the table is perfect for meetings. A couple of teak armchairs are perfect for reading by the fire.
After a lengthy search for a new family home the client purchased the house in Middle Park, which suited their family perfectly, all except for the brown interiors. The property consists of an Edwardian house to the front with a significant extension completed approximately five years ago. The entire house was transformed to reflect the personality of the occupants.
In the Edwardian rooms the cornices and fireplaces were reinstated to show a respect for the era and then each room was painted a different shade of blue for a different atmosphere. Blue was a key colour (the Finnish flag) and it connects the Edwardian front of the house with the new extension. The living/ kitchen area is airy and fresh, accentuated with the pastel tones of the furnishings.
The entire interior design concept was closely followed resulting in a complete and strong interior. The renovation was quite extensive and required an expert builder experiences with working on interior projects. The custom joinery throughout, wallpapers (there are six types) window furnishings, floor finishes and lighting were carefully planned and came together with the whole family very happy with the results.
The client was very happy with the overall transformation, however the ‘Home Hub’ was a really important addition. The ‘Home Hub’ replaced a large bathroom and was meticulously planned with a compartment for each family member to fit specific daily items such as school bags and folders. Only when these daily routines are considered it allows for the living areas to be kept tidy which was important for the client.
