A modern contemporary residence created as a garden retreat and a peaceful family studio.
Attached to an already existing family home, architects of Windiate Architects have designed a unique and modern space which acts as a teenage retreat, a parent escape and a place for entertaining family and friends. Located at the rear of the home, Thornbury Studio 1 responded to the neighbouring properties and council regulations, whilst achieving the clients brief of providing a great backdrop to an already existing lush garden, which is easily viewed from the house. Due to the inner urban context Windiate Architects had to consider the boundary conditions and impacts on neighbours. The ceilings were reduced to the bathroom and store to obtain lower walls on boundary as well as a split skillion roof to provide a clerestory window for light and ventilation.
