A modern contemporary design of industrial interior made consisting of polished concrete surfaces.
Designed by AM Architecture, this house presents a modern idea of escapism, within the urban setting of Melbourne city.
Entrance into Toorak house is through an incredibly designed three metre garden wall, which flows into a single volume, which bounds the internal and external north facing living spaces, dividing the public and private realms of the house
When lit subtly at night, or when the winter sun penetrates deep into the room, a feature black wall throughout, recedes to provide a backdrop of garden and art within.
With the central space articulated by a stepped bluestone wall, which screens the living areas from the entry; a secondary internal courtyard presents itself as a hidden oasis within the house.
This stone then extends inside to become a seat, hearth, a bookcase, and hold the kitchen, influenced by the idea of a monolithic stone ruin running through the house, to which the living areas have been built around.
The rear of the building is set into a terracing site with full height windows onto raised garden beds bringing the green into each room. Each space throughout the house, has been cleverly though out by the designers, to create a modern industrial style fused with contemporary outlay.
And whilst the polished concrete surfaces create a cooling feel to the interior design of the house, the surrounding gardens of the house; which are brought into the living areas of the house through clever design, soften the house, creating a warm and earthy environment.
