San Remo Project
by Ecoliv Sustainable Buildings
The design brief for the San Remo Project by Ecoliv Sustainable Buildings stipulated a holiday home that was unashamedly bold and striking in contrast to the baron surrounds of the land.
Overlooking Bass Strait the home needed to embrace the environmental qualities of the site to capture natural light, sustainable materials and construction methods. Ultimately the project became the perfect pairing of form and function, with the homes robust palette showing simplicity and refinement in design.
The San Remo Project by Ecoliv Sustainable Buildings pairs striking aesthetic decisions with innovations in sustainable modular home construction and environmentally responsible material, resulting in a home that exudes contemporary simplicity.
The project had to overcome several challenges including site orientation and environmental elements. The gently sloping acre block is elevated above the cliff top beach and exposed to harsh southerly winds direct from Bass Strait. Ecoliv overcame this by creating the enclosed decks that surround the house to provide adequate protection.
Featuring Alutile and radial sawn Silvertop ash timber cladding this four bedroom, spacious open-plan living, dining and kitchen also boasts a pool with a protected deck overlooking the ocean.
The considered placement of picture frame windows capture both rural and seascape vistas.
The home exudes a sensation of space within a relatively small footprint and an innate interrelationship between inside and out.
Crisp white walls rise from limed timber floors hinting at the homes beach side location in an otherwise bold and contemporary interior.
A 7-star energy rating – 1.6w solar power system, Earthwool insulation, Boral Enviro plasterboard, 100% wool carpet, reconstituted stone benches, water-saving plumbing fittings, double glazed windows, renewable plantation timber, solar hot water, energy-efficient lighting, maximum star rated appliances, 10 000 litre water tank make up the impressive environmentally sustainable features of the project.
