Stealth House

A contemporary design of rustic Australian architecture hidden in the tropical Rainforests of Queensland.

The rustic contemporary design of the Stealth House in Noosa is a compliment to the natural surrounding earthy tones of the Australian landscape.

With the property being situated on a high ridge, overlooking an undulating Rainforest, hiding freshwater creeks and waterfalls, designers Teeland Architects used the surrounding environment of the rustic Australian landscape, to create a unique house; which not only takes advantage of the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, but blends well into the landscape around it.

“We were enamoured with the beauty of the property and wanted to design a house that not only complimented the natural landscape but would become part of it and provide the owners with an intimate connection with their surrounding environment.” The designers stated.

One of the main challenges the designers faced, was to configure a design, which would enable the house to have views towards the ocean to the east, as well as maximising the north facing glass, which would capture the winter sun and north views of the surrounded Rainforest.

Other considerations the designers had to consider, was due to the high elevation of the site, the house would be exposed to the prevailing winds coming off the ocean. The solution was to configure a unique design, which would fold around a protected deck with views into the Rainforest in the foreground and panoramic ocean views in the distance.

Public areas of the house, like the kitchen, dining, living and entertainment, open up towards the deck and pool, with stunning ocean views beyond. The bedrooms and bathrooms are more private, and have been provided with intimate views, which look back over the Rainforest and creek to the north.

In order to maintain stability of the house on the steep; which is a heavy slip area; designers opted away from using a series of long poles to support the building, adopted a cantilever method to the front of the house, by using a steel structure, which anchors back into stable rock of the land.

This creates a wonderful effect to the house, creating a design illusion that the house is floating above the landscape. And with the added effects rustic dark tones of the house façade, the building blends well into the forest background.
