Woollahra House II

The Woollahra House II introduces a sense of playful contemporary style into the interiors of a large family home in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

The project is an interiors collaboration between Arque and Luigi Rosselli Architects on a grand old 1940’s style home in the affluent Sydney suburb of Woollahra. One can observe Arque’s unique combination of contemporary functionality throughout the interiors, whilst a sense of playful styling is present in every space. 

Emma Rees-Raaijmakers and Suzanne Green of Arque are well practiced in the art of conservation architecture and were mindful to preserve the Heritage charm of the building whilst introducing contemporary styling elements.

The bathroom spaces in the home feature different asthetics and contrasting colour palette’s. A restrained palette of marble on wall, floor and vanity top provides a serene and timeless backdrop to the master ensuite. Marble is laid in a herringbone pattern on the floor and a brick stretcher bond pattern on the wall.

The most important element was ensuring that the design would work for the client, both practically and spatially which can only be successful by really listening and understanding the client. The truly collaborative approach between Arque, Luigi Rosselli Architects and the client ensured a pleasing final result for all parties. 

Arque were mindful to preserve the Heritage charm of the building whilst introducing contemporary styling elements.

Emma and Suzanne intdoduced a ‘less is more’ approach when altering the interios of the space. Minimalist contemporary styling is present throughout the home. The restrained colour palette was the perfect backdrop for an impressive collection of modern art and furniture.

One can observe Arque’s influential combination of contemporary functionality throughout the interiors, whilst a sense of playful styling is present in every space.

Ultimately the final design preserved the heritage fabric of the existing home whilst introducing an inherent sense of modern style to the space. A truly successful collaboration between two well respected Sydney architecture studios.
