Merah
by One Design Office
Merah by One Design Office is a hospitality interiors project located in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote.
Merah is a Malaysian themed restaurant in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote. The restaurant puts a contemporary spin on traditional Malaysian dishes and in accordance with this ODO was tasked with creating an interior theme that echoed to overall flavor of the restaurant.
ODO wanted to design an interior that was in line with the overall ethos of the food. The intimate 30 seat venue reminiscent of a kopitam, but feels very modern.
Merah translates to red in Malay and therefore accents of red, white, blue and light wood make up the venue’s striking colour scheme.
ODO have created a trademark design that is minimalist in nature, bright in colour, calm in style, and stylish in overall presentation.
A large booth seat with a long light feature runs down one side of the venue, while shelves full of glasses and Merah branded products lines the other wall. Ultimately ODO wanted to create a design that established Merah as a modern and stylish restaurant among one of Melbourne’s most culinary rich suburbs.
